ESPN reported the injury to Dart's left knee was more severe than first thought, and Adam Schefter said further testing has left the Giants and Dart facing the possibility of season-ending surgery.

Dart was injured on the opening possession of New York's 28-6 defeat to the Rams, with initial reports indicating a sprained MCL and no broken bones and an MRI scheduled for Tuesday. Head coach John Harbaugh said on Monday that he believed a "devastating outcome" had been avoided and that he did not expect Dart to be out long-term, but he did not provide a recovery timeline. The 23-year-old, a second-year quarterback, began the season with a strong start in the Giants' Week 1 win over Dallas.

The injury occurred when Dart left the field after taking a heavy hit from Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart on the Giants' seventh play of the game. He watched the second half in a track suit on the sidelines.

After Dart exited, Jameis Winston struggled to move the offense, throwing an end-zone interception as New York's only points came via field goals.

Reports placed Dart among several quarterbacks hurt in Week 2 around the league: Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears is listed as week-to-week and will miss some time with a hamstring injury suffered against the Vikings, while Washington Commanders' Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow in a defeat to the Cowboys and has no timeline for return.

Further testing, including the MRI that was scheduled for Tuesday, and the consideration of surgery will determine whether Dart's season is over, according to the reports cited.
