Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had his home in Cheshire burgled on Wednesday. He was in Italy for the club's Champions League game against Como when the break-in occurred.

Fernandes' family were not in the property when it was broken into. The intruders were inside for less than five minutes before police arrived. Manchester United are understood to be supporting the 32-year-old following the break-in. BBC Sport has contacted Cheshire Police about the incident.

Ruben Dias and his former girlfriend Maya Jama previously had their Cheshire home burgled in similar circumstances, and Dias was at Manchester City's Champions League game against Galatasaray when his home was targeted in January. Previous victims in the same area have included Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez.

Manchester United were beaten 4-1 by Como, and following the match Fernandes criticised his manager Michael Carrick's tactics.

He will remain as the club's captain and will not be disciplined for his comments. Fernandes has been with Manchester United since joining from Sporting in January 2020.
